William Rosencrans ’19 is in the first year of a PhD program at Caltech. But his life as a researcher started a few years earlier, powered by programs that sent him away from ��ݮ��Ƶ to spend time at major research institutions. 

Political science and peace and conflict studies double major Chris Burke ’21, from Wellesley, Mass. describes his research in Prague as a Stone Fellow with the Center for Freedom and Civilization. 

In an effort to bring multilingual worlds home to ��ݮ��Ƶ University students, Professors Matthew Miller and Mahadevi Ramakrishnan from the German and French departments led 16 students on a one-week excursion to the TriRhena region in May. 

Two ��ݮ��Ƶ University students accompanied Mahadevi Ramakrishnan, senior lecturer in French, to Santa Marta last month to present at the 44th Caribbean Studies Conference, hosted by the Caribbean Studies Association.

Linked to the course Environmental Problems and Environmental Activism in the People’s Republic of China, this extended study let students examine issues of environmental justice.

Assistant Professor of Geology Joe Levy planned a two-and-a-half week geology road trip helping frame the Earth’s geological history in a manner impossible to replicate in a classroom.

Next winter break, students will travel to Havana, Cuba, for three weeks as part of ��ݮ��Ƶ’s first credit-bearing extended study trip to the island.

��ݮ��Ƶ study groups allow students to study off campus for a semester while immersing themselves in new cultures, perspectives, and experiences.
