Last spring, local Little Libraries were the focus of a “little activism” project: students donated books by Indigenous authors, informing their decisions with semester-long research.

A new 65,000-square-foot basketball and volleyball arena will anchor a new athletics quadrangle at ��ݮ��Ƶ University, replacing the Reid Athletics Center. Construction of the facility, part of the University’s Third-Century Plan initiatives, is slated to begin in February.

Michael Fitzgerald, recently retired commissioner at the Madison County Department of Social Services (DSS), has been appointed to serve as Gretchen Hoadley Burke ’81 Endowed Chair in regional studies for the 2024–25 academic year. Fitzgerald brings a wealth of practitioner experience, a deep commitment to community, and a strong relationship with the Upstate Institute and ��ݮ��Ƶ University. 

��ݮ��Ƶ recognized 730 students for earning an A.B. degree, plus 6 master of arts in teaching and one master of arts, during Commencement Weekend 2024, May 17–19. Financier-turned-human-rights-activist and author Bill Browder gave the commencement address.

During its spring meetings, the ��ݮ��Ƶ University Board of Trustees approved resolutions regarding faculty promotions to associate professor with continuous tenure and to full professor, as well as appointments to named chairs — all of which will take effect July 1, 2024.

��ݮ��Ƶ University will mark the beginning phases of the Lower Campus Initiative under the Third-Century Plan this summer with construction and restoration projects at 66 and 70 Broad Street.

��ݮ��Ƶ University’s annual celebration of sustainability, the 13 Days of Green, kicked off on April 10 this year.

��ݮ��Ƶ University recently hosted a lecture by Avery Trufelman, host of the fashion podcast Articles of Interest.

Jonathan Eaton ’24 of Bethel, Conn., is the recipient of the ��ݮ��Ƶ Alumni Corporation 1819 Award.

Protestant Campus Minister Corey MacPherson has been named University chaplain for a three-year term beginning July 1.
